New presses add capacity at MAMCO

Custom injection molder MAMCO has added four multi-ton molding presses to its manufacturing floor that will significantly broaden its current operating capacity.

The company acquired two 30-ton Newbury shuttle presses, one 90-ton Mitsubishi press, and a 30-ton Newbury rotary machine. Vice president Mark Vergari says the new additions will replace older machines and enable the manufacturing division to create more scheduling flexibility and run more jobs simultaneously.

“They give us the ability to be more versatile,” Vergari adds. “When scheduling gets tight, we can run more of our jobs on these presses.”

The new shuttle machines, which were installed just before the Easter holiday, come with the ability to run larger mold-base sizes, compared to the two older presses which they replaced. The Mitsubishi press, due to be installed in April, also offers increased operating capacity. The rotary machine, which accommodates four mold bases, provides even more capacity. All four presses, adds Vergari – are much newer and more state of the art than the units that previously operated.

Because the new presses are similar to the ones they are replacing, no new training was necessary for MAMCO’s manufacturing staff in operating them. However, because of the added machines, the division recently reorganized the manufacturing floor, transferring some machines to other departments in order to accommodate the new additions. All in all, says Vergari, the machines are changing the process flow at MAMCO to allow for more up time and improved capacity of their molded parts.
